Welcome to the home site of the

 Maine Boatowners' Association

Maine Boatowners' Association (or MBA) was incorporated on February 19, 1998 as a non-profit civic league, by a statewide group of experienced recreational boat owners.  Being volunteer based, MBA is governed by a board of directors and managed by a small staff, all of whom are deeply committed to boating as a life-long activity, if not a lifestyle.

WHAT DOES MBA DO_

1. We serve as the Advocate for all recreational boaters.  By bringing together in one organization, boat owners and operators, boating businesses, and other supporters, from both coastal and inland waters, MBA empowers all these folks who have a real stake in the issues and conflicts affecting boating in Maine.  Whether it is a bill before the Legislature, an inquiry from the media, or a conference to design future public policy, MBA is there, ready to offer guidance and counsel to the process.

2. We do our homework well.  MBA focuses upon seven areas:

  • Procuring Financial Benefits / Privileges

  • Boating Education & Safety

  • Government Relations

  • Boating Law Enforcement

  • Environmental Awareness & Protection

  • Sharing Surface Water Resources

  • Public Relations & Communications

In each case, Association staff and volunteers do the necessary research, engage in meaningful discussion, and take action based upon a solid foundation of thorough knowledge of the subject at hand.

3. We utilize 1. and 2., above, to help preserve, protect, and promote boating in Maine. MBA's efforts range from simple tasks, such as responding to Members' questions and concerns, to full-blown campaigns to alert both boating businesses and the boating public to ill-advised legislation or regulation.  But boating is a very social activity and we all enjoy boat shows and events and gatherings, where we learn from one another.  Boating is great fun and we intend to keep it that way!
